Canada Issues Invitations to Apply in First Express Entry Draw of July
In its ongoing efforts to manage immigration amidst economic fluctuations, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently conducted a significant Express Entry draw on July 2. This draw saw the issuance of 920 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), with candidates needing a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739 to qualify.
This draw follows a series of targeted draws in recent months, reflecting IRCC’s strategic approach to immigration management. On June 19, another PNP-specific draw invited 1,499 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 663. These draws are integral to IRCC’s efforts to stabilize temporary residency levels by offering more pathways to permanent residency for those already contributing to Canada’s economy.

These draws are part of IRCC’s strategy to meet Canada’s immigration targets while addressing regional economic needs. Express Entry, introduced in 2015, manages applications for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The CRS evaluates candidates based on factors like age, work experience, language proficiency, and education. Higher CRS scores increase candidates’ chances of receiving an ITA in subsequent draws.
Overview of Express Entry Draws:
Express Entry draws encompass various types, including program-specific draws, category-based selection draws, and general draws. Program-specific draws, such as those focused on PNPs, prioritize candidates nominated by provinces, thereby enhancing their pathway to permanent residency. These draws are tailored to meet regional labor market needs, ensuring economic benefits across Canada.
Introduction of Category-Based Selection:
In 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws to further refine its immigration strategy. These draws target candidates with skills aligned with Canada’s economic priorities. Categories include healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transportation, agriculture, and French-language proficiency. Each category aims to strengthen Canada’s workforce and support diverse economic sectors.
Looking forward, IRCC continues to adapt its Express Entry system to maintain Canada’s status as a preferred destination for skilled workers globally. By providing clear pathways to permanent residency, Canada remains committed to attracting and retaining talented individuals who contribute to its economic prosperity and cultural diversity.
