Activities for Canada Day in Edmonton

Canada Day marks the anniversary of Confederation and also offers us time to learn, reflect, commit to understanding the truth and move ahead towards reconciliation. The City of Edmonton acknowledges the traditional land on which we reside is in Treaty 6 Territory. We do this to create awareness that we are all treaty members, and to show recognition and respect for Indigenous Peoples and the traditional territories on which we live and work.

Enjoy the magnificent fireworks over Edmonton’s River Valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River on Monday July 1.

The fireworks will be livestreamed by CBC Edmonton for anyone who would like to watch remotely.

Before taking watercraft out on the North Saskatchewan River, check the boat launch notifications. Closures may occur due to water levels, weather, or other situations.

Fireworks Safety

Fireworks can be extremely dangerous and disruptive to individuals, property and the environment, particularly in dry conditions, if not used or handled correctly.

Be safe and remember, you must have a permit issued by the City of Edmonton to use fireworks within city limits. Always check to see if there is a fire ban in effect before use and make sure wind conditions are safe, as per permit conditions.

Under the City of Edmonton’s Public Places Bylaw 14614 and Community Standards Bylaw 14600, any use of fireworks without proper permits is illegal and subject to enforcement which can include fines of up to $10,000.
