Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently conducted its latest Express Entry draw, issuing 6,300 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) specifically for candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
This draw required candidates to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 515, marking the lowest score of the year for non-category based selection draws. Notably, this score is lower than the last CEC-only draw held on May 31, which required a minimum CRS of 522.
In July alone, IRCC has issued a total of 17,361 ITAs across various draws, showcasing its commitment to facilitating immigration through the Express Entry system. Just a day before the CEC draw, IRCC invited 1,391 candidates in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only draw with a significantly higher minimum CRS score of 670. Earlier, on July 8, 3,200 candidates were invited in a category-based selection draw focused on French proficiency.
Express Entry, introduced in 2015, manages applications for three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), CEC, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). The system evaluates candidates based on factors like occupation, age, education, language proficiency, and work experience, culminating in a CRS score that determines eligibility for ITAs.
Category-based selection, introduced in 2023 and extended through 2025, targets specific candidate profiles deemed crucial for addressing Canada’s workforce needs and demographic strengths. These categories include healthcare occupations, STEM professions, trades occupations, transport occupations, agriculture and agri-food occupations, and French-language proficiency.
Draws under category-based selection are not program-specific, requiring applicants to be in the Express Entry pool to qualify for ITAs. This strategic approach allows IRCC to prioritize candidates who can contribute significantly to Canada’s economy and society.
